YOBS assaulted a York teenager and tried to steal his MP3 player in a daylight attack.

The 19-year-old victim was walking along Seventh Avenue, in Tang Hall, between 3pm and 3.30pm, when the two youths approached him and threatened to beat him up if he did not hand over the MP3 player.

When he said no, one of the attackers pushed him into a hedge. The teenager retaliated and hit the attacker.

When the teenager backed away, the second youth hit him in the face, causing a slight injury. The youth was wearing a gold ring, which the victim saw as the punch was thrown in the attack on Wednesday, January 10.

The first youth is described as white, approximately 5ft 7ins tall, about 18 years old and of slim build. He was wearing a blue baseball cap, dark blue tracksuit bottoms with white stripes down the sides, and a blue polo neck jumper.

The second youth is described as white, 5ft 6ins tall, and about 16-years-old, with short, dark, cropped hair. He was wearing blue tracksuit bottoms, a dark blue zip-up top, and a gold ring.

PC Samantha Bolland, of York Police, said: "This assault happened in broad daylight at about the time that people are leaving school. Has anyone seen anything?"
