I AM very glad that C Alexander (Impractical ban, Letters, January 25) has an expensive, large car and likes music on and, in spite of a severe disablement, which a young person must find frustrating, is able to drive anywhere at any time in York city centre.
I am very sorry indeed that this disabled driver feels aggrieved that very many inconsiderate pedestrians and cyclists walk very slowly in footstreets in front of his/her car.
What is the point of footstreets?
I thought they were places where pedestrians, whom I thought have the right of way, are allowed to walk slowly, and safely enjoying the same benefits that disabled drivers obviously have.
At the moment I am totally disabled and unable to walk or drive anywhere, having had my foot trapped under a car wheel, resulting in a broken bone, on December 27 in Davygate footstreet.
Why do disabled drivers need to park on footstreets anyway, when they could use the Shopmobility services in Picadilly car park?
I would like to see a total ban on vehicles, except for emergencies, during footstreet hours. Disabled people could reach these areas on motorised scooters, everyone would be safer, and disabled drivers would not be verbally abused by irate pedestrians.
