THE claim by the Lib Dem city council that our streets are cleaner now, due to their efforts (Clean sweep for new city service, The Press, January 22) is a joke.
I live opposite Carrs Lane on Skeldergate, which I use regularly, along with many local residents and tourists.
This lane was littered with plastic bottles, rubbish and leaf debris which has been there since early- to mid-December. I have slipped several times on the slimy cobbles and leaf debris, although I have been told that the lane is supposed to be swept every Wednesday.
Finally, fed up with waiting for the council to get its act together, I contacted councillors Ruth Potter and Sandy Fraser. Result: entirely due to their efforts (not the Lib Dem councillors), one week later, the lane has finally been cleared of litter and graffiti.
Let's get a council in that cares about our streets and communities.
