YORK City Rowing Club crews made up for lost time with a good showing at the Boston Head of the River.
Even after seven weeks out of action because of flooding, York's rowers showed no signs of rustiness.
The S2 eight of Will Todd, Andy Wilkinson, Mark B Roberts, Tom Ransley, Ben Johnstone, Mark K Roberts, Craig Kirkaldy, Gav Morris, coxed by Helena Smalman-Smith, won S2 eights. They were the fastest crew of the day, clocking eight minutes 52 seconds over the 5000m course.
Nollaig Browne and Helen Banks won women's senior 2 double sculls.
The junior Under-15 double scull of Owen Harrison and James Reeder won convincingly, ahead of Marlow and the York City second crew. That double then teamed up with Tom Korobejko and Chris Wright in senior quad sculls, against older competitors, and came second, three seconds behind Norwich.
Korobejko and Wright would have won the U-16 double scull event if it had not been for a change in conditions.
The York double raced in the first timed division. The winning boat raced later when the lock gates were opened to allow a build up of water into the sea resulting in the latter divisions being about one minute faster.
The York men's elite eight suffered the same fate as the junior double scull by rowing in the first division and in doing so lost the top event of the day.
Eliot Clark and Nick Bartlett won novice double sculls for the second race in succession, having sped to victory in York Small Boats in November. They were well ahead of competitors from Doncaster, Derby and Sheffield.
York's junior girls Sophie Deed, Izzy Clegg, Lauren Hennessy and Louisa Hood, coxed by Kezia Buckley, easily won their novice coxed quads event.
