REGARDING the article Minister praises transport plan' (The Press, January 29), the Lib-Dem's acceptance of praise for the 2001 to 2006 local transport plan is a bit rich, considering this was a Labour initiative.
While the second transport plan (for 2006 to 2011) has received praise for its outline, ultimately the content will have to develop radically over next five years if the council is to continue to be rated highly.
Considering the poor performance of the Lib-Dems on transport, especially the £1.5 million wasted on road maintenance due to poor planning for the introduction of the ftr, I seriously doubt that the Lib-Dems have the expertise to implement their plan.
Furthermore, without the backing of York residents, this transport plan will not be a success; many residents' confidence in the Lib-Dem's planning capabilities has already been lost.
Tracey Simpson-Laing, Labour's Spokesperson for Transport, Salisbury Road, York.
