FURTHER to reports relating to financial losses incurred by the failure of the Grand DeParty in July, I bought tickets for the event which were advertised as being for disabled patrons and their carers.
On arrival at the venue, we were dismayed to discover that the disabled parking area was a long distance from the designated entrance; we were denied entry through the gate adjacent to the disabled parking because it was locked.
We struggled to the one and only entrance and asked for directions to the disabled seating area.
This area was filled with able-bodied persons and my daughter’s requests to make room for my wheelchair were ignored.
As a result we had no alternative but for my daughter to try and push me precariously over the uneven and wet grass. I spent the whole evening looking at other peoples’ legs and bottoms because being seated at ground level in my wheelchair, I could not see the stage or artists.
The so called ‘Grand’ DeParty was a shambles for fit and disabled patrons. My complaints to the council have been ignored. I totally agree with the safety advisors in their decision not to support future events.
