HOW proud the traders and residents of Bishy Road must be in receiving the award of '‘one of the best shopping parades in Britain'' (The Press, November 11).
It is obvious to all residents of York that Bishy Road is something special.
You only have to visit pre-Christmas to see the effort and pride that goes into the street, and the Tour de France’ celebration was magnificent.
I don’t live in Bishy Road, far from it, I live in a part of York that was once a bustling shopping parade filled with a diversity of shops which was a joy to walk along.
It is now a sad parade with endless charity shops, hairdressers, betting and gambling places (don’t worry, there is a money lender nearby), estate agents and coffee shops.
What ever happened to the old Acomb?
Annette Scott, Acomb, York.
