DAVID RHODES (Letters, November 17) says he disagrees about the new legislation regarding smoking in cars.
Well, Mr Rhodes, apart from the passengers inhaling fumes, smoking in cars is lethal on all counts. You cannot be in proper control of a car with a cigarette in your hand; it’s as bad as using a mobile phone or eating.
Two hands are needed on a steering wheel to be in control. Also, if you have an accident while smoking it could be catastrophic .
I have on a few occasions seen drivers carelessly throw a cigarette from their window without even bothering to put it out, oblivious as to where it lands.
I am all for banning cigarettes in cars – the sooner the better.
Mrs Wendy Blanchard, Huntington Road, York.
