SELBY Rock Choir has been invited to switch on the Christmas lights in the village of Burn, near Selby.
This year's ceremony takes place on the green opposite the village pub, The Wheatsheaf, on Saturday November 29.
Members of the choir will perform seasonal songs from 4.30pm, before carols and a Christmas blessing from Methodist minister the Rev Linda Day, with the lights switch on at around 5.15pm, all followed by a visit from Santa.
Burn Parish Council chairman Chris Phillipson said: “It gives us great pleasure to welcome the Selby Rock Choir to our celebrations this year and we thank all the members for helping us make it another memorable occasion.
“Selby Rock Choir attended our Big Lunch in June and enjoyed Burn’s community spirit and friendliness so much, they jumped at the chance to join us this Christmas."
Burn Methodist Chapel will play host to the traditional Tree Festival from 1pm, with this year's theme ‘proverbs and sayings’ and a prize for guessing all the entries. There will also be refreshments available.
A small Christmas Market, run by Burn Community Group, will be held in the Methodist Chapel from 3pm, with stalls, tombola and games.
The Selby Rock Choir follows Christine Talbot from YTV’s Calendar who switched the lights on in Burn for Christmas 2013. Other VIP guests have included Jean Alexander (Coronation Street’s Hilda Ogden), BBC Look North presenter Harry Gration, York panto Dame Berwick Kaler, Radio York Drive Time presenter Elly Fiorentini and YTV’s Jon Hill, who have switched on the lights in previous years.
