Worse still are the subsequent sanctimonious appeals to the hearts, minds and wallets of the general public, by multi-millionaires, well capable of funding their own vanity projects.

We do not need lectures on generosity and moral obligations from a class of people whose subscriptions to tax avoidance schemes are well documented.
