A PROFESSOR has spoken out about the need for everyone to be able to eat fairly and well, despite the economic crisis and austerity measures.
Professor Liz Dowler, of the University of Warwick, gave the latest in a series of talks about wellbeing for the William Temple Association at York St John University.
In the talk, Enabling All to Eat Fairly and Well: Justice Challenges from Food and Poverty in a Rich Country, she said that many faced hardship from cuts in pay and social welfare, along with rising prices.
“There has been little attention to how households can eat decently and sufficiently,” she said. “Consequences of not doing so for social wellbeing and nutritional health can be severe, but are hidden and individually embodied rather than monitored and addressed by society.”
