A WOMAN has been assaulted during an attempted robbery in Sherburn-in-Elmet.
The woman, in her 40s, was walking in Kirkgate at about 11.15pm on Saturday when one of two men approached her, grabbed her arm and demanded money before attacking her.
She suffered scratches to her face but escaped before anything was stolen. A police spokesman said she had been left “very shaken up” by the incident.
North Yorkshire Police are carrying out house to house inquiries and checking CCTV, in the area, and have urged anyone who saw the men or witnessed the incident to contact them.
The suspects are described as both white, aged between 18 and 22. One was 5ft 5ins tall, and the other was about 5ft 8ins tall.
Both wore dark clothing and had their hoods up, and the one who spoke to the woman had a local accent.
