DETECTIVES have named a man whose body was recovered from the River Foss.
Leslie Bell, 63, of Monkgate, was found in the water around noon on Tuesday.
A post mortem examination has been completed and the inquest is expected to open and adjourn next week.
Police inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding Mr Bell’s death remain ongoing.
Although it is still not known how he ended up in the river, North Yorkshire police say there is no evidence to suggest the death was suspicious.
Officers were called to the scene at Foss Bank after someone walking next to the river near Layerthorpe spotted a body.
Crews from North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue service all attended the scene, and the Fire Service rescue boat was launched to help recover the body.
Anyone with information that could assist the investigation should contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1, and speak to the Force Control Room.
