TWO public exhibitions will be staged next week about the plans for a new community stadium, leisure facilities and community hub at Monks Cross, York.
A consortium led by Greenwich Leisure Ltd (GLL) is launching a public consultation, giving people the chance to view its detailed plans and provide feedback before a planning application is submitted.
The drop-in exhibitions will be held between 2.30pm and 7pm next Friday at Orchard Park Community Centre, Badger Paddock, Huntington, and between 10am and 4pm next Saturday at West Offices, City of York Council's headquarters in Station Rise.
GLL said the proposed stadium would provide high-quality conferencing and hospitality facilities as well as a new covered ‘fan-zone’, allowing supporters to enjoy the atmosphere before the match.
"The leisure centre will include, a 25m, six-lane swimming pool, a teaching pool and fun pool as well as interactive water play areas for children of all ages and abilities," said a spokesman. "There will also be a new sports hall, a dedicated spinning studio and dance studio."
He said the community hub would be the first of its kind in the city and focus on providing health and wellbeing services for York residents and visitors, with project partners including the York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, York St John University, Explore York Libraries and Archives Ltd and York Against Cancer.
"It is proposed that the new development of the stadium, community hub and leisure complex, will also include a number of retail units, restaurants and a cinema," he added.
Chris Symons, director of development for GLL, said: “We have developed plans which can not only deliver fantastic new facilities for the sports clubs of York, but provide much needed leisure and community facilities.
“We will consult with the local community before a planning application is submitted. I would encourage the local community to come along to an exhibition, discuss the development and provide feedback to the team.”
