THE religious group Hope Central are being less than Christian in opposing a planning application to redevelop the former Groves Chapel simply because they want to acquire it for themselves at a lower price (The Press, November 20).
This is not a tactic which any organisation professing an ethical code of conduct should be pursuing; no matter what alternative altruistic uses they have in mind for the premises.
The Groves area is not well served by local convenience stores; there is a desperate need for more housing and the building will require a major injection of funds to properly restore it.
The proposal is perfectly reasonable and as a local I will not be supporting any campaign to oppose it.
Matthew Laverack, Architect of this parish, Lord Mayor’s Walk, York.
