THREE charity beers brewed for the switch-on of Bishopthorpe Road's Christmas lights raised £524 for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Little Brew brewery at Clifton Moor produced the ales, using ingredients from shops in the street, and they were on sale at last Thursday night's event.
Stu Small, who runs the brewery, said: “It was an absolute pleasure to be part of this brilliant event. The atmosphere was amazing – I had a great time chatting with the very orderly and jolly queue of thirsty revellers. Thanks to everyone from Bishy Road who supported the project and helped raise over £500.”
Claire Gibb of The Partners Group, who came up with the idea, said: “We thought we might sell a few pints, but we never expected this response. We were pouring the ale as fast as we could but the queue never went down – right up until we sold the last Bishy Brew."
