CHILDREN who have taken part in a new educational scheme will receive their 'degrees' next month.
Selby Community Primary school is running a local children's university, giving children the chance to learn more and build confidence outside the classroom.
Councillor Steve Shaw-Wright Chair of the Community Engagement Forum said the Children’s University is a first for Selby, and the pupils were looking forward to the presentation at the next meeting of the CEF on December 3.
He said: "I believe it’s the only one of its kind in North Yorkshire - I am looking forward to learning about the opportunities for Selby’s young people being made available by this innovative approach."
Students collect stamps in a passport from attending activities, and can graduate as undergraduates, or even a masters of PhD- complete with a cap and gown ceremony at a special ceremony at Selby College.
Anna Chamberlain, Selby Children's University manager, said: "At the heart of its work is the ambition to raise aspirations, aspire to inspire, boost achievement and foster a love of learning, so that young people can make the most of their abilities and interests, regardless of the background into which they were born."
