THE Yearsley Pool Action Group would like to thank Press readers and the York public for their support for Yearsley Pool.
Our petition asking for funding to keep Yearsley Pool operational for five years has gathered more than 4,000 signatures in less than three weeks. During a recent rainy petition event in Parliament Street, we gathered 1,405 signatures in less than two hours.
We were greatly heartened by the amazing response of a supportive York community that recognised Yearsley Pool is vital for the health, fitness, and water safety of citizens.
It also emerged the public are largely unaware Waterworld’s fun pool with its slides and chutes will soon be lost. This popular water play environment compliments Yearsley’s more serious swimming environment.
Waterworld’s decline and sad demise is deeply disturbing. James Alexander recently quoted Trip Advisor and said Waterworld was really grimy.
GLL operate the facility but rather than be penalised, they are being awarded the contract to run all of York’s leisure facilities, including Yearsley Pool.
York needs facilities that are operated to high standards for residents and visitors. We must be vigilant.
Fiona Evans, Yearsley Pool Action Group, Whenby Grove, York.
