THE York Coronary Support Group is spearheading a campaign to persuade City of York Council to continue to fund the Burton Stone Lane Community Centre. The campaign’s petition has just topped 2,000 signatures.
The petition will be handed to Cllr Helen Douglas of Clifton ward at a coffee morning to be held at the community centre on Saturday at 10.30am.
Representatives of other groups using the centre have been invited to attend the handover and make their views known.
The support group has recently learned that £120,000 pa is given to the Clifton Residents’ Association by the city council and wonders why some of this money cannot be used to make up the £44,000 shortfall councillors wish to save by withdrawing funding from this much-used and much-loved community facility.
Eileen Johnson, Chairman, York Coronary Support Group.
