THE Ebor Festival may be considered the jewel in the crown of York’s racing calendar, but the Macmillan Charity Raceday, which is staged every June, has to be its most worthy event; the perfect way to combine glamour and excitement with a chance to help a great cause.
Since it was first staged 44 years ago, the race day has raised more than £6 million to help people affected by cancer. Remarkably £365,000 of that figure came this summer and we offer our congratulations to all who took part.
Now attention turns to next year where more amateur riders are offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to ride a thoroughbred on Knavesmire in front of a packed crowd.
There’s still time to apply, so what are you waiting for?
