I SEE that not only is Lendal Bridge fully open again, with the consequent traffic congestion, delay and pollution, but there are demands for the resignation of those far-sighted enough to call for restrictions on intrusive cars.
I well remember the introduction many years ago of pedestrian-friendly streets when local traders campaigned vociferously against the idea, warning of the terrible damage it would to do businesses. Those same traders now flourish, finding the streets are full of shoppers instead of cars.
The economy has not yet fully recovered, hence business is slow nationally, but the ever-increasing number of cars clogging our streets does nothing to help.
