ON THE subject of Lendal Bridge, some years ago my car broke down in Bedfordshire with a broken clutch cable.
The AA organised a tow to a garage where a new cable was fitted, even though it was a Sunday afternoon. I paid the bill (thankfully) and drove home.
A few days later I received a letter from the garage apologising and stating that they had overcharged me and enclosing a cheque for the balance.
This was before the days of cards etc so the only way that garage could have traced me was remembering I had mentioned I came from York and then ringing directory enquiries to get my address.
So why is it that nowadays with computers, credit and debit cards and all the rest of the technology available, City of York Council is unable to refund the Lendal Bridge fines.
