UKIP in York seem to have opinions that they feel will make them sound more socially acceptable (Letters, November 25).
Such views do not always seem to be supported by Ukip activists up and down the country. Many of these views are at odds with what Ukip were saying only months ago.
I don’t indulge in “terrifying screams”, I don’t see myself as a member of the “ruling political classes”, but I do see myself as a councillor who seeks to represent the electorate to the best of my ability and to do my best for the city.
Ukip in York does not appear to understand that councillors are not only elected to represent their ward electorate, but to help govern and manage the authority.
I have learned over the years that whatever decision one might take, there will always be people that agree and at times strongly disagree.
Judith Morris says we should work for the people. I try my hardest, but perhaps she thinks I am working for the wrong people. Perhaps she will tell me which people I should be working for and why.
With Ukip having only 15 per cent support across the country, I guess she is listening to the wrong people or supporting the wrong policies.
John C Galvin, Bishopthorpe ward, City Of York Council.
