SO the council is going to reinstate the chicanes on Huntington Road. This at a time when there is a great concern for traffic flow and pollution.
These chicanes do not slow traffic down, they stop it. This can also be observed in Heslington Lane, causing gridlock at peak times, and the frustration of being stopped needlessly encourages head-on crashes. And woe betide any driver or motorcyclist, especially outsiders, who in bad visibility may collide with one of these concrete and steel deathtraps.
I don’t understand why this part of Huntington Road is subject to traffic calming, no doubt decided by yet another non-driving “expert” on the council. But if we must suffer this, please keep the speed humps, at least the traffic will flow steadily.
I thought this was the aim of the proposed traffic commission.
