FIRE crews were called to a house in Barley View, Wigginton, at about 2pm on yesterday, after wallpaper caught fire.
Damage was caused to wallpaper above the mantle piece in the living room of the property after it was set alight by an incense burner.
Fire damage was also caused to a mirror on the wall, and some of the ceiling, and there was light smoke damage throughout the house.
A North Yorkshire Fire Service spokesman said the occupier used a garden hose to put out the fire before the arrival of crews, who fitted smoke detectors to the property and gave the homeowner safety advice.
