I WOULD like to add my name in support to your ‘Be vocal for your local’ campaign and efforts to give the public a say over planned changes of use of existing pubs.
As has been widely publicised, the Punch Bowl in the ward I represent is under threat and there is a real sense that such a move would damage the local area for many reasons.
The community aspect of bringing people together is one reason why the Punch Bowl is an asset to the Groves, Haxby Road and the area close to the hospital.
The argument made by many commentators, and indeed attendees at the Cabinet meeting where the issue was discussed, of cheap alcohol availability saturating this area is, I think, a valid one.
So I support calls for an article 4 direction to enable residents to have their say. It is certainly the least they deserve when proposals like this arise.
Cllr Janet Looker (Labour), Guildhall ward, Clifton Green, York.
