A DRUNK man lay down underneath an ambulance in York city centre to stop it driving away, a court heard yesterday.
Prosecutors told magistrates that Mark Burns, 38, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place when he appeared before magistrates in York yesterday.
The court heard police had been called to Martin’s Court, in York, at about 11.15pm on Tuesday, September 26, by ambulance staff who were trying to treat a woman who had suffered a fall, while a drunk man was behaving obstructively.
Burns, of Wilberforce Avenue, had wedged himself under the axle of the ambulance to stop it moving away as paramedics treated his wife.
Police had to talk him out from under the vehicle before arresting him.
Magistrates gave Burns a six-month conditional discharge for the offence, and ordered him to pay £85 in costs and a victim surcharge.
