I WOULD like to thank The Press for the coverage on August 2 and November 13 of the story following the discovery of a First World War victory medal with the inscription of “George Henry Sykes”.
He would have been my grandfather, and with the help of Janet Lea, genealogist at the cemetery, 25 descendants were found and were present at the cemetery to see the medal being handed to me by Mr Binns, who found it approximately 20 years ago.
A happy ending to a story of a man we know little about. Thank you so much; very pleased with the photographs.
Dorothy Turpin (nee Sykes), Wigginton Road, York.
