THERE has been much talk about making the A1237 ring-road into dual carriage way but will it ever happen and will the A64 from Hop Grove to the existing dual carriage way be upgraded?
If an upgrade to the A1237 were to go ahead without the A64 upgrade, the Hop Grove junction would become impossible. The problems at this junction, it was claimed by York council will be solved by a larger roundabout with a lighting system.
Again they were wrong.
The two must be upgraded together but we have seen today that a vast amount of money is being made available but not to the roads of York but to the major routes of West Yorkshire.
Also the Government is talking about a new mayor controlling transport among other things for West Yorkshire, and York risks being dragged into it whether we want it or not.
We do not need areas of Leeds and Sheffield dictating to the people of York. City of York Council may not have a good track record at sorting roads and transport for York, but I can see things getting worse, not better.
R Stevenson, Haxby, York.
