CHRISTMAS Cheer is coming to the Guildhall with the Lord Mayor's annual festive party for pensioners in York.
The Christmas Cheer lunches will take place today, and a generous donation from the city's Co-Operative stores will bring an extra helping of Yuletide spirit to the events.
The Co-operative’s North Region Membership and Funeralcare business have joined forces to ensure the festive lunch goes with a bang after providing £400 worth of Christmas crackers and mince pies.
The event, hosted by the Lord Mayor of York, Councillor Ian Gillies along with his wife Lady Mayoress Pat Gillies, Sheriff of York John Kenny and Sheriff's Lady Jill Kenny, will see around 200 pensioners enjoy carols and a special Christmas lunch in the Assembly Rooms.
Margaret Silcock, Chair of The Co-operative’s North Yorkshire Area Committee, said: “It is vital that The Co-operative supports the local communities in which it operates.
"The Lord Mayor’s Christmas Cheer event is extremely popular with elderly residents in York and hopefully this donation will bring some extra cheer to the pensioners and give them a true taste of Christmas.”
