TWO meals caused alerts when cooking pans caught fire in separate incidents in York last night.
At 7.25pm, an unattended wok in Campbell Court, off Osbaldwick Lane, started a blaze that led to a man inhaling smoke. He was treated at the scene by paramedics.
An hour later, six people including children and two dogs, had to evacuate a house in Albert Close, Huntington, when a build-up of fat and grease in a grill started a fire. No-one was injured.
Although the house had smoke alarms, they didn’t work because they didn’t have batteries in them.
In both properties, firefighters from Acomb and Huntington contained the fire to the cooker area and the kitchen areas were smoke damaged.
