A COUPLE who met by chance on a passenger ferry are today celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary.
Mick, 72, and Margaret Macleod, 68, of Clifton, met on a ferry on the River Clyde when Mick was working as a deck hand and the pair began chatting.
Two years later they married in their home city of Glasgow before moving to be near Margaret's mother Jane in York.
The couple have three children, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Reflecting on the secret to a long marriage, Margaret said: "I would say if something gets broken and it's worth mending, don't throw it away. Talk things through."
Mick spent most of his career working for cross channel ferries and Margaret worked at Nestle.
She said some of her happiest memories were when her husband's ship came in after he had been away with an earlier job with the Merchant Navy, and a more recent trip they went on to Las Vegas and Memphis.
They are celebrating their Golden Wedding anniversary with family and friends this weekend.
