IMPROVEMENTS are on the horizon for the cycle routes to Monks Cross retail park.
Plans to join up two separate sections of existing off-road cycle path in Jockey Lane were approved in November last year, but had to go on hold when the negotiations to acquire the required land failed.
Now new proposals for the cycle path to run on the opposite side of the road will be taken to a public decision on December 11.
There will also be a new cycle and pedestrian crossing point part way along Jockey Lane, leading to Monks Cross, as part of a wider initiative to build a continuous pedestrian and cycle route from York Business Park at Poppleton and create an Outer Orbital Route for pedestrians and cyclists.
Following approval, the scheme will be funded by investment from the council’s four-year Local Sustainable Transport Fund, and £117,000 is currently set aside.
