MEDIA coverage of mistreatment in care homes is always distressing. I felt I must share my experience with two outstanding ones in York.
I chose Rosevale for my husband because they offered excellent daycare for dementia sufferers before it was necessary to go into full-time residence.
There is an indefinable atmosphere which can be felt when one steps into an institution. All the senses come into play.
The best have a sense of order, well being, joy and satisfaction in work well done. I found it in Rosevale and when eventually Gerry needed more intensive nursing care, their sister home in St. Catherine’s.
The ethos of care from management to cleaners, but especially the wonderful nurses and carers, was a huge relief to me. I could visit any time and was always warmly welcomed into what I felt was an extended family.
When Gerry died peacefully with me at his bedside, I knew he had received the best possible care and treatment.
Our heartfelt thanks and best wishes to you all at Rosevale and St. Catherine’s as you spend a good part of the festive season making such a difference to your residents and their families. You are very special people.
