HUNGRY residents will receive a seasonal gift after volunteers made hundreds of Santa socks and filled them with treats.
Those using the city's foodbanks are to receive some festive cheer in the form of an over-sized sock brimming with sweets.
York Learning has encouraged helpers to put the unique knitted socks together using recycled materials.
Cllr Sonja Crisp, cabinet member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: "The response to this appeal has been wonderful, with willing individuals and groups from all over the city keen to partake in the festive spirit and put their crafting skills into action.
"This project has been loved by individuals of all ages from children right through to a 90-year-old who regularly attends York Learning Classes and I'd like to thank everyone for their contributions.
"It's been so popular that we hope to run it again next year."
