IAN Collinson (Letters, November 24) perpetuates the commonly-held belief that Labour councillors have defected due to the leadership and governing style of the Labour council.

Let’s re-establish the facts. One councillor failed the selection process of York Labour party and the three Clifton councillors were deselected by their branch members.

If this had not happened then the four would still be Labour councillors and would almost certainly be standing for Labour next May.

All their accusations are to justify their continuance as councillors and perhaps to seek election next year under whatever banner they decide suits their purposes.
