RESIDENTS in York can get advice on managing their money over Christmas at an event this week.
City of York Council’s Family Information Service (FIS), Explore York Libraries and Archives Mutual Ltd and the Citizen’s Advice Bureau will be hosting a morning of crafts and information on Wednesday between 9am and noon in the reception foyer at West Offices.
Explore York Libraries will also be on hand to provide information about the discounts available through York Cards and representatives from York CAB will be available to help with information on sensible festive spending.
There’ll be a host of crafts for children to get stuck into, including making Christmas decorations, colouring in Frozen characters and decorating paper Christmas trees.
The CAB’s top ten tips to avoid a Christmas Debt Hangover are:
1. Plan early
2. Don’t forget everyday bills
3. Don’t bank on an overdraft
4. Keep things simple
5. Shop around
6. Buy safe to be safe
7. Read the small print
8. Do your own credit checks
9. Be Organised
10. Start planning and saving for next Christmas once this one is over
From Wednesday 10 December, York’s FIS will be posting Christmas facts and advice on social media. Search for #12daysofFIS.
