FAMILIES who have lost babies came together York Minster for mutual support in the Christmas season.
The annual carol service was organised by the Lullaby Trust because Christmas, with its focus on the Baby Jesus, is a difficult time for those mourning the death of an infant.
Jona Ellis, whose baby daughter died aged 12 weeks and two days, said: “I have been involved in the York Minster Carol Service since 1995 and every one has an impact on me. It’s always very emotional but it makes the beginning of Christmas for me and my family.”
Bereaved family members read readings, the East Riding of Yorkshire Band and the choir of St Wilfrid’s RC Primary School provided music and the Rev Taff Morgan gave the sermon. After the service, attendees hung cards on a remembrance Christmas tree.
The Lullaby Trust provides specialist support for bereaved families, raises awareness on sudden infant death and promotes advice on safer baby sleep.
