ANYONE who remembers the furore over bin collections changing from weekly to fortnightly will be concerned about a new option being considered to drop the service to a monthly one.

We accept there needs to be a reduction in public spending, but families are already struggling and it’s hard to comprehend how they would cope with more cuts in their collections.

While fortnightly is not ideal, people are learning to recycle more and there appears to have been no major issues from the change. Monthly, though, is another matter, because it could be a perfect recipe for an increase in fly-tipping.
