PLANS to demolish and rebuild a new infant school in York will be on public display next week.
An evening of public consultation into the building of a replacement Carr Infant School, in Ostman Road, will be held on Monday between 3pm and 6pm.
A spokesperson for the school said: "The new school building is designed to accommodate 270 pupils aged three to seven and will be located within the grounds of the existing school."
Building is due to start on the site in May 2015, with the new building expected to be complete by February 2016. If all runs to schedule, the existing school will be demolished in June 2016.
The school, along with Lord Deramore's in Heslington, was issued a share of the Government's £2.4 billion Priority School Building Programme (PSPB) fund, which was designed to help rebuild 261 schools around the country which are in a bad state of repair.
Leaflets explaining the new school design proposal in more detail, along with artist's impressions of the new school have already been made available to visitors to the school, and will also be on display at the event.
The former Secretary of State for Education, Michael Gove, announced the funding in Parliament in January, after he was questioned by MP for York Central Hugh Bayley. Mr Gove pledged that work would start on the new school by the end of 2014, but costs and details were unavailable at the time.
