A ROBBERY in York being investigated by police did not happen.
North Yorkshire Police launched an appeal on Tuesday after a 60-year-old woman claimed she was pushed to the ground in Heslington Road and had her handbag stolen in an assault on Monday.
Today, a spokeswoman said: "Police investigating the alleged robbery on Heslington Road in York on Monday can now confirm that the incident did not happen.
"The alleged victim has today withdrawn the allegation and the police investigation has been closed. No action will be taken against the complainant."
