THE proposal to cut two of the cabinet seats is welcome (The Press, December 9).

Now we need to look at the actual number of councillors. One councillor per 10,000 residents would be a fair figure. A total of 21 councillors would save hundreds of thousands, and would stop the practice of putting placemen in safe seats on wards with three councillors.

New council leader elect, Dafydd Williams has made a promising start with some sensible proposals. Let’s hope that they aren’t all just election gimmicks, and Labour returns to its madcap ways if they get another majority next May.
