SO Sebastian Coe is worried about a big drug scandal in athletics.
The thing that puzzles me is how they decide what constitutes a performance-enhancing substance.
At the time of the Ben Johnson fiasco, two sports clinics independently carried out tests on the substance supposedly giving an unfair advantage. Both clinics came to the conclusion that no advantage could be gained directly from the drugs, after testing on both athletes and non-athletes.
One clinic did say that one substance could give an advantage by virtue of the fact that it tended to make people angry and thereby make them try harder. On that basis you would have to ban anyone with a bad temper.
