THE new Selby Leisure Centre is only weeks away from opening.

Builders at the Scott Road site are in week 52 of the 63-week programme, with dozens of workers still on the site ensuring it is ready for its grand opening in 2015.

The new leisure centre will provide a larger gym, activity hall, fitness studio, an all-weather sports pitch, sauna and steam room, as well as a six-lane 25m swimming pool, a learner and training pool, and indoor and outdoor spaces for other events.

A spokesman for developers Wates said: “The building envelope has now been completed. There are currently 48 site operatives – busy testing and tiling the swimming pool and decorating the building’s interior.

“The mechanical and electrical installations are almost complete so we’re very much moving towards the finishing stages.”
