DOCK officers had to use force to get a prisoner to the court cells at the final pre-Christmas hearing at York Magistrates Court.
A 33-year-old man on a charge of theft objected strongly to being remanded in custody on Christmas Eve.
He insulted the chair of the bench and called out repeatedly “I didn’t ......do it”.
Two dock officers handcuffed him in the dock and, as he struggled violently, escorted him down the steps to the court cells below.
He had opposed a Crown Prosecution Service application to remand him in custody.
He will return to the same court this week.
