RECENT amusing letters reminded me of something I saw in The Press many years ago, in the old broadsheet Yorkshire Evening Press, while scanning through the marriages column, I should say in the region of 30 to 35 years ago.
It gave the married couple’s name, which escapes me now, but I will always remember the lady’s maiden name, which was given as “nee Trembler”. I didn’t know whether to laugh out loud or stare incredulously at it.
Then I thought, how did they get this past the front desk, but there again, why wouldn’t they?
I realise there will be many people who will not see anything remotely funny or significant about this entry.
If that is the case, one would have to phone a friend, because one could not possibly elaborate in a family newspaper.
However, it is also quite possible that it was a legitimate name.
