SO there will be 69 new police offices for North Yorkshire Police this year alone. Salaries vary between forces, but the typical starting salary for police constables is £23,317, rising to £25,962 after initial training.
Add all that up, along with the existing police officers, and we have a very expensive police force in North Yorkshire which has to be paid for by the general public – and which the highly paid police and crime commissioner, Julia Mulligan, put forward.
Having contacted the chief constable, Dave Jones, four months ago because of no follow-ups as promised by his officers to reporting possible crimes, all he did was send my correspondence to a sergeant at Eggborough police station.
Having had no response, I wrote again and a further letter stated than an inspector would contact me.
Nothing happened and I sent a further letter to Mr Jones.
Having made enquiries and with the help of county councillor John McCartney, we established that the sergeant had been off work ill. Why had his workload not been dealt with by someone else?
I finally had the opportunity to meet the sergeant and another officer, and I received an apology from him for the lack of communication, yet it was not his fault but that of his senior officers.
