TWO young people supported by the youth homelessness charity SASH have helped transform the garden of an 85-year-old York resident.
Joan Stewart, of Clementhorpe, has spoken of her delight after Luke and Josh gave both her front garden and back yard a makeover.
“The team’s been brilliant," she said. "They’ve made a terrific difference!
"I’ve not been able to weed for months and it’s all been getting out of hand, but they’ve weeded, power-washed, they’ve cemented the bottom of the wall, put in edging stones and done the front garden as well.”
The project was part of a scheme known as ‘Enable’, organised jointly by SASH and City of York Council and supported by Homebase York.
The scheme aims to bring together young people who want to develop their practical skills in preparation for living independently, with older people who have jobs to do around the home but are no longer able to do the work themselves.
