A MOTORIST who crashed into traffic lights near a York supermarket yesterday is thought to have suffered a heart attack.
North Yorkshire Police said officers were called by Yorkshire Ambulance Service to a collision on Foss Islands Road, near Morrison's supermarket, at 11.55am yesterday.
"A Ford Focus collided with the traffic lights at the turning for Morrisons supermarket," said a force spokesman.
"It is believed that the driver of the vehicle, a man believed to be aged in his 70s, may have taken ill at the wheel. He has been taken to York Hospital."
Yorkshire Ambulance Service said it had received a call to attend a cardiac arrest.
The road was closed for a while after the accident while officers conducted inquiries. The motorists has not been identified.
Witnesses are being urged to call police on 101 and pass information to the Force Control Room, quoting log number NYP-30122014-0147.
