LORD Mayor Ian Gillies navigates York’s historic city walls with the help of Simon Mattam’s walking guide.
The book, titled A Walking Guide to York’s City Walls, was originally published in the summer for the Friends of York Walls.
But – walkers and history lovers alike, please take note – the new guide book will be given pride of place in the new acquisitions section of the city’s reference library when it re-opens following a big seven-month refit on January 5.
Cllr Gillies, who is patron of the Friends of York Walls, said: “The city walls have long been one of York’s main glories and this book helps us enjoy and understand them better. It is admirably clear and uses pictures, photos and maps to point out features which can be easily missed – even by those of us who think they know the walls well.”
